A Collaborative Writing Challenge
The Silent Quill Project
Several authors. One story. One chapter at a time.
No outline. No predetermined ending.
The Concept
The Silent Quill Project is a collaborative writing challenge created by author Mareth Corven to put creativity, adaptability, storytelling, and individual writing styles to the test.
Six authors enter the project with one shared goal: create a single, cohesive novel together.
The story begins with a prologue and opening chapter written by Mareth Corven, establishing the characters, setting, and circumstances. From there, the Quill begins to pass.
Each participating author receives the manuscript containing everything written before their turn. They must read what has already been established, interpret the clues, characters, mysteries, and events in their own way, and decide where the story should go next.
There is no master outline telling them what to write. There is no predetermined ending waiting for them. And no author gets to tell the next writer what they intended.
Once something is written, it becomes part of the story. The next author must deal with it.
The Authors Keep Their Own Voices
One of the most important parts of The Silent Quill Project is that the writers are NOT expected to imitate one another.
Every author is encouraged to write in their own natural style. Different voices. Different strengths. Different interpretations.
The challenge is whether those individual voices can come together to create a story that still feels natural, connected, and compelling from beginning to end.
Who Wrote What?
That's another part of the challenge. Chapter authorship remains anonymous.
There are no author names or bylines attached to individual chapters. Participating authors are not told who wrote the chapters they inherit, and they are prohibited from discussing the developing story with one another.
They may recognize a writing style. They may have suspicions. But until the project is finished, the Quill remains silent.
The Blind Reader Challenge
When the manuscript is complete, six independent readers will evaluate the participating authors' chapters without being told who wrote them.
Each chapter will receive a score out of 100 based on:
The goal is simple: Let the writing speak for itself. No author reputation. No name attached to the chapter. No popularity contest. Just the reader and the words on the page.
The Silent Quill Winner
Once all six blind readers have completed their evaluations, the scores will be calculated before chapter authorship is revealed.
The participating author with the highest final blind-reader score will become the Silent Quill Winner and receive an autographed book from Mareth Corven.
Then comes the moment everyone has been waiting for: the authorship reveal. For the first time, the writers and readers will discover who held the Quill for each chapter, which readers correctly recognized an author's style, and just how differently each writer interpreted the story they inherited.
